"I cannot change the past but I can influence the future."

Welcome to SGF, an organisation dedicated to empowering young girls through football. Our founder, Lissa Griffiths, recognised the inequalities that exist in female youth football and decided to be the change she wanted to see in the world. With a focus on project design, management and entrepreneurship, we provide innovative solutions to level the playing field for young girls in the sport. We are proud to have expanded our efforts to Africa, collaborating with voluntary organisations to bring hope and change to girls who have been denied access to sports.

In 2023, Lissa was asked to join The 63 African Sports Changemakers as a mentor and recently attended The Global Sports Entrepreneurship Week in Casablanca, Morocco. .

FREEDOM TO BE (12).png

The Freedom To Be Project aims to remove period poverty, decrease the incidence of gender-based violence and teen pregnancy. We are a female youth empowerment project that utilises the combined expertise of existing community leaders from Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, The Gambia, and Tanzania to engage, support and educate girls and their communities.

Our Activities:

  • Teaching the local community how to make reusable sanitary towels and period pants and providing the equipment and resources to do so.

  • Teaching yoga to adolescent girls as a tool to manage period pain.

  • Playing chess to increase mindfulness, focus, and critical thinking.

  • Using non-competitive football and education to promote gender equality.

  • Sex and relationship education, preventing exploitation and teen pregnancy, and providing mentorship, education, and employment to existing teen mums.

  • We provide individual and online facilitator training (free of charge) to new organisations that we work with.

  • For organisations who want to use elements of programme and who are not registered partners within the project can access low-cost training.

Our Partners:

  • Football Without Borders, Kenya & Tanzania

  • The Young Villa Football Academy, The Gambia.

  • House of Hilkiah Foundation, Nigeria.

  • Inspire Teenagers Foundation, Kenya.

  • ToseSonke, Zimbabwe.
